We got LOTS of snow this past weekend (about 2 foot). We followed the weather station's advice and shoveled every few hours so that we didn't have to deal with a 'lump sum'. With that said, our first shoveling came in the early a.m. after 15 or so inches had already fallen. It was still snowing...blizzard like conditions. After shoveling 'the wet HEAVY snow' for about 3 hours, my husband and I were needlessly to say exhausted. With about an hour of shoveling left to go...an enormous privately owned 'plow truck' passed us by (as many had). Through the wind-driven snow we saw this one stop about 100 yards away, and then proceeded to back up to our driveway. The driver waived us aside and finished the back-breaking task for us. My husband and I had no money on-hand to tip the guy, but it didn't make a difference...he took off like a speeding bullet. We responded the best way we could by doing a 'thank you' dance in the middle of the street...our only hope is that he saw us in his rear view mirror.

I was at the local Goodwill store, which I enjoy perusing through...hoping to find a diamond in the rough!  On this particular day I only had $20.00 on hand, but $20.00 can prove to be a king's fortune at a place like this. As I was rummaging around,  I stumbled across a 'Tommy Hilfiger' handbag (price tag still intact). It was just $10.00. I QUICKLY got in line to cash-out, but I GOT STUCK behind a hard-luck story. As it was...the patron in front of me had a ton of 'kids' clothes in her basket...and after the cashier rung it ALL up...her total was $55.00 and she only had $40.00. What could I do? I choose to listen to my heart and offered up my $20.00 (passing on the handbag). It was a small price for the warm feeling that I continue to enjoy to this day.

Recently my husband and I were cleaning out a garage for a family member, which as you can imagine contained lots of junk. Amongst all the junk was a refrigerator in 'brand new' condition. We loaded it on our truck with the idea that we would take it to Goodwill...only when we got to Goodwill they quickly informed us that they do NOT accept large appliances. I began to worry...I didn't want to lug this refrigerator around in the back of our truck all afternoon, nor did I want to take it home and risk having it become a yard ornament for the next 6 months. THEN, before I could process another thought my husband veered off the road and drove up to a farm stand on Route 40. He went up to the Farmer and asked him if he would like a FREE refrigerator. While the Farmer seemed a BIT (ALOT) reluctant...he eventually accepted with the promise that it actually worked...which it did.

After he got back in the truck, I asked my husband what made him think that this Farmer he had randomly chosen would be interested in taking the refrigerator...his only response..."you don't know, if you don't ask." To this day...I can only say WOW!
